Makers of last year's blockbuster hit Velai Illa Pattathaari(VIP) join hands again in 'Thanga Magan'. Thanga Magan is a light-hearted entertainer that has its elements of humour, love, affection, and action.  Dhanush's fourth film of 2015 after Anegan,Maari and Shamitabh , he could end 2015 on a good note.

Tamizh(Dhanush) belongs to a middle class family. His two phases of life is portrayed in the film . One as an irresponsible teenager and the other as a responsible family man.  As a teenager Dhanush loved Hema(Amy Jackson) ,an Anglo Indian. As the typical love story between a beautiful looking girl and an average looking guy progresses, their love story too progressed.  However, this love story didn't flourish for long and Dhanush is married to Yamuna(Samantha) and he turns out to be a responsible family man. Things take a turn when Tamizh's father commits suicide one morning and no one knows why . How Tamizh unravels the reason is the story of Thanga Magan.
The interval block ends on a high note. The later half is not as packed as the first. The first half was filled with timed comedy sequences, few one-liners and good elements of romance and in the later half the film shifts into a less pacy action mode. The problems which this middle class family encounters and how they overcome it forms the rest of  the plot.
A breezy, simple and light-hearted entertainer with an interesting first half and an average second half.  The romance between Dhanush and Amy was good to watch and the underlying humor was well timed and well executed.

Performance

Dhanush did exceptionally well as Tamizh both as a teenager and as a family man. Amy Jackson too did well. Samantha was good in her cute looks and mature performance.  Dhanush -Amy Chemistry worked out well.  Satish was good in his role. KS Ravikumar proved himself to be a good actor too playing Tamizh's father. Radhika Sarathkumar was equally good as Tamizh's mother. Other cast did justice to their roles.

Music

Songs by Anirudh was good. They sounded intense and mature.  The BGM was an average one.

Screenplay and Direction

The writer is successful in creating a crisp entertainer of 2 hrs duration. The direction was also good. Director Velraj could create another entertainer after VIP.

Verdict:- Thanga Magan would be a decent watch for the Family Audience. A Watchable Entertainer to be enjoyed with less expectations..

Rating: 3/5
