After long wait. the most anticipated film of the year 'Charlie'  has opened to positive reviews.  Charlie is a romantic drama but it can't be compared with Premam or Ennu Ninte Moideen. It has its own  style. With less expectations , Charlie is a decent watch.
Charlie (Dulquer Salman) is a young man who leads a detached life. He loves to travel and wishes to live without any worries.  He leads a crazy and impulsive life.  The story goes through the view point of Tessa(Parvathy Menon) who elopes from her family as she doesn't wish to get married. She finds a shelter in Kochi. Tessa lived in a room which was earlier occupied by someone. His stuff in that room and one call from his creates curiosity in Tessa to find out who the previous occupant was. The film is Tessa's journey to find who Charlie actually is.

The film is not a complete fun film like 'ABCD'. It has its own dimensions.  The style of narration was good and the visuals were outstanding.  The climax was good but abrupt. Dulquer-Parvathy chemistry is added positive to the movie.

The film isn't a pacy one. It takes its own time to get into the track.

Performance

Dulquer as Charlie was brilliant. He could present the Charming character with ease. One of his best performance till date, Parvathy was good as curious Tessa. Her mature acting skills stole the show.  Aparna Gopinath, Nedumudi Venu ,Chemban Vinod, KPAC Lalitha, Tovino,  Soubin ,Neeraj were perfect in their roles.

Music

BGM was good . Songs were average ones.

Cinematography

Charlie is visually extravagant and the credit goes to cinematographer Jomon T John. He proved himself once again with his stunning visuals.

Script and Direction

Writer Unni R is successful in creating a fresh and simple love story. The way in which characters were introduced in the film created difference. The movie doesn't have any big elements of suspense but still engages the audience .  Martin Prakkat's direction was good and he could transform a good script into a better movie.

Verdict : Charlie is A Decent Watch ....

Rating : 3.25/5

7th Day Malayalam Movie Review

Director:- Syamdhar

Cinematography:-Sujith Vaassudev

Screenplay:-Akhil Paul

Music:-Deepak Dev

Editing:-John Kutty

Our Rating:-3/5

Starring:-Prithviraj,Vinay Fort

Verdict:- A Good Suspense Thriller

7th Day from debutant Syamdhar is a feel good suspense thriller which has Prithviraj in the main role.

David Abraham IPS(Prithviraj) is a crime branch officer who is under suspension. He has been suspended for a reason which will be revealed in later stage of the movie. Even though under suspension, he investigates an unregistered case by himself. On the night of Christmas, David and two youngsters Shaan(Vinay Fort) and Vinu(Anu Mohan) go for a chance encounter which changes their life. The the other three in their gang  being Jessy(Janani Iyer) ,Cyril(Praveen Prem) and Eby(Tovino Thomas). These guys tries to escape from a money laundering racket. The investigation would be completed in a span of seven days starting from the day of Christmas to the day of new year.  Revealing much about the story would reduce your interest in watching this one. Will David succeed in solving the case ? What will happen on the 7th Day forms the rest of the plot.

The first half of the film drags a bit when the premise of the thriller is set. The second half of the film is brilliant  and the climax was a good one. The lack of pace and need of logic arise  in the first half. So, 7th Day is an average and good watchable thriller from Prithviraj if you avoid comparison with his other police characters.

Performance

Prithviraj is the back bone of the film. He played his role well in his middle aged look, intense expressions and dialogue delivery.  Vinay Fort and Anu Mohan were equally good. Others did justice to their roles.

Music

Music by Deepak Dev, though not outstanding,it  is not a let down. BGM was fine.

Technical Aspects

Sujith Vaassudev's camera work was brilliant. His dark shaded frames were excellent.

Direction And Screenplay

Debutant writer Akhil Paul tries to give a serious tone to the narrative by slowing the pace. But he is not much successful in doing that. The script has many loop holes in it. Debutant director Syamdhar has done his part well. He tried much to make this one a dark mood thriller.

Verdict:-7th Day is Just A Good Suspense Thriller...

Rating:-3/5

Our Rating:- 3/5 -Feel Good Movie

Shibu Gangadharan's directorial debut 'Praise The Lord' based on Zachariah's novel of the same name is just an average feel good family entertainer which entertains most of the audience.

He asks Joy to hide Samkutty(Ahmed Siddique) and Annie(Akansha Puri) eloped without the permission of their parents.Joy agrees to hide them. Samkutty is a firm believer in God while Annie is  a modern spoiled brat whom he meets at Delhi. They fell in love with each other.Annie wishes to enjoy unmarried family life. They are later threatened by Joy's father Kunjutty(Joy Mathew) and they move from there. How Joy and others struggle to hide them and help them live together forms the rest of the plot.

Altogether 'Praise The Lord' is a usual average family entertainer which can be enjoyed if approached with less expectations. The first half is very much interesting with good jokes and performances. The second also is good despite the lag during the beginning of the second half.

Watch it with less expectations. It won't disappoint you. The film may appeal to all sections of audience.

Mammootty performed very well as Joy .He is the main attraction of the film.  His expressions , dialogues and mannerisms as Joy was excellent.  Reenu Mathews as Ancy is also good. Ahmed Siddique did a neat job as Samkutty. Akansha Puri as Annie was just fine. Rest of the characters did justice to their roles and rendered enough support.

Music

Music by Shaan Rahman was good. The two songs 'Innaleyolam' and 'sharon vaniyil' were good. Background score by Bijibal was fine.

Technical Aspects

Even though not excellent, Pradeep Nair's camera work was nice. He has captured the locations of Kottayam in a beautiful manner.

Screenplay and Direction

Screenplay by TP Deverajan based on Zachariah's novel was fine. Direction by debutant Shibu Gangadharan ,was also good. The film is a good and enjoyable family entertainer.
