Geethanjali Malayalam Movie Review 2013
Geethanjali Malayalam Movie Review. Geethanjali marks the
return of Dr. Sunny in Manichithrathazhu after 2 decades. Audience has great
expectation when the film belongs to veteran director Priyadarshan.Their
expectations was not completely fulfilled by this film. As the director already
said, Geethanjali is not a sequel to Manichithrathazhu. Geethanjali doesn’t
make any comparison except the character of Dr. Sunny.
The story starts from Mumbai when Anoop (Nishan) & his
good be Anjali (Keerthi Suresh) to Anjali’s traditional house Arakkal when he mother
falls sick. She returns & meets her parents. But after she enters the house,
something haunts her badly & she behaves abnormally.Series of unpredictable incidents take place in her life afterwards. Nishan with the help
of Suresh Gopi(Cameo Role) invites Dr. Sunny (Mohanlal) to look after the issue. He comes and examines
the girl. He finds that the girl Anjali is the one who is haunted & not the
huge mansion. He then finds the reason behind all this with good elements of
humor, suspense & horror.
Geethanjali actually is a story of two twin sisters. Dr. Sunny
doesn’t have much to do in Geethanjali more than being a psychiatrist. The
horror works out in the first half & fails to impress in the second half.
Geethanjali can be watched for once surely without a comparison with
Manichithrathazhu. This movies shows resemblance
with a Kannada movie which itself was a copied one. Geethanjali is not as much
as Manichithrathazhu but as an independent film, it can be watched for sure.
Performance
On the performance part Mohanlal tried well to impress the
audience as Dr. Sunny but the limitations in the script makes him unable to be
the old Dr. Sunny in Manichithrathazhu
though he is the same old funny Dr. Sunny. Debutant Keerthi Suresh wasn’t bad
but her performance in the second half made the audience a bit unhappy but the
climax made most of them happy again. Nishan was not bad. Innocent was good in
his scenes. All others perfectly fit into their roles.
Music & BGM
There are only 2 or 3 songs in Geethanjali & Vidyasagar
was fine in making the songs. The background score suited the mood of the film
well & it entertained the audience.
Direction &
Screenplay
Abhilash Nair’s screen play had lot of loopholes which could
make the audience unhappy but Priyadarshan’s direction made the film a good
one. The horror sequences were well shot & the audience was satisfied. But
the writer & the director could have taken a bit more care in making
Geethanjali a fascinating thriller.
Technical Aspects
Cinematography was excellently done by S. Tirru & the
scenes were well shot. The camera work stands out.
Verdict: All together Geethanjali is not the perfect
horror-suspense thriller of all times but it can be watched once without any
bore. Don’t go with much expectation. Watch it as a single film without
comparing with Manichithrathazhu. You’ll definitely enjoy it.
RATING: 2.75/5
