Director Ranjith Sankar comes up with his 4th
film ‘Punyalan Agarbathis’ which is a
comic entertainer & socially relevant film. Coming to his 4th
venture, it is different from his earlier films in the sense that it’s a comic
entertainer but it has the elements of social importance & sattire.
Joy Thakklolkaran (Jayasurya) is
a young enterprenuer from Thissur who wishes to be rich. He starts an insence
stick factory & markets incense sticks named ‘Punyalan Agarbathis’ which is in fact made from elephant dung.He
keeps himself afloat with the money his wife Anu(Nyla Usha) makes from her job
where she has to work hard.Joy has a companion Greenu Sharma (Aju Vargheese)
who considers Joy as his role model. Joy agreed to take elephant dung from the devaswom
& later they disagree to give him what he needs since he is a Christian. He
fights it out in the court with the help of his advocate Sai(Rachana
Narayananankutty) while he tries to get elephant dung from other sources. He
finally succeeds in the case . But all these were just a beginning . Things are
yet to come.
The film is suitable for all
types of audience especially for the family audience. The Thrissur slang in the
dialogues work out well in entertaining the people & the elements of
sattire towards the present day society too works out well. The film do contain
lot of things about social commitment & of course lot of funny moments to
entertain us.
‘Punyalan Agarbathis’ is a
perfect watch if you are not in a mood to dig out the very minute flaws which can be neglected.
Performance
Jayasurya is coming up with good
roles & best performance. He is the winner of the show. It is his

support to the script especially in handling the Thrissur Slang language &
by rendering beautiful performance.Nyla
Usha was good as Anu.Sreejith Ravi ‘s performance was good & also T G Ravi’s.
All the other cast did their roles in a very good manner which makes ‘Punyalan
Agarbathis’ a colourful entertainer.
Music
Music from Bijibal renders ample
support. The song ‘Aashichavan..’ sung
by Jayasurya has become a hit already. The background score entertains the
audience further as it gives proper support to the mood of the film. The songs
do arrive at the right places.
Technological Aspects
Sujith Vasudev’s cinematography
& Lijo Paul’s editing was excellent. Sujith Vasudev captured the life of
Thrissur in his camera.
