After
Celluloid - A Tribute to father of Malayalam Cinema , director Kamal comes with
his new venture Nadan which zooms into the history of professional dramatists
& a professional theatre artist.
Devadas Sargavedhi
(Jayaram) is a professional dramatist who had inherited his passion from his
father Bharathan (Hareesh Peradi). He runs a drama troup 'Sargavedhi'
which was once a very famous drama troup which consisted of dedicated
dramatists. He was a state award winning actor. Now they are in a not so
comfortable position. Devadas , as husband is a failure. His wife Sudharma
(Sajitha Madathil) left him taking with her , his two daughters. So his personal
life too is off the track. There are people like KPAC Radhamani ( KPAC
Lalitha), KPAC Abu backer (Chembil Ashokan) who still goes on with Sargavedhi
but whereas people like Jyothi ( Remya Nambeeshan) & GK (Joy Mathew)
have moved to the world of cinema. All these form the plot of Nadan which mainly
describes the life of Devdas as an artist & as a person.
Nadan of course is an
appreciable work but if the script had been handled a bit more better way , the
film would have been much engaging. There are lag at places & few unwanted
elements. It becomes melodramatic towards the climax. There is nothing much in
the movie for mass audience & it is a good watch for the others despite the
lag.
All together Nadan is a
good movie which has some flaws but the intention in making Nadan makes it a
good watch.
Performance
Jayaram was good as Devdas. Sajitha Madathil also renders her full support through acting.KPAC Lalitha impresses us with her performance & others all tried to do their roles in a good manner.
Music
The background score suits the mood of the film but the songs won't last in our mind for long. Unlike the songs of celluloid, songs in Nadan is not much impressive.
Technical Aspects
Madhu Neelakandan have done a brilliant job in doing cinematography. Also the art director helped us to feel the atmosphere.
Screenplay
S Suresh Babu who have scripted Nadan could have taken much care to make Nadan , a much more better one.
Direction
Kamal, as always does his direction part in a very good manner but if he had given a bit more concentration on the script & made some changes , Nadan would have been an excellent one. Even though Nadan impresses to an extent, it won't gain space among Kamal's unforgettable movies.
Verdict: Nadan as a Whole is Good Tribute to Dramatists. Impressive to an extent , but not extraordinary.
