Jilla - A Mass Masala Entertainer
Director:- R T Neason
Cinematography:- Ganesh Rajavelu

Starring:- Mohanlal,Vijay....
Our Rating: 3/5 Watchable Entertainer
When I walked out of the theatre with the audience , I could
find them shouting and yelling because of joy. Yes..Jilla is a colorful
entertainer. It has all the elements that we expect from such a typical Vijay
starrer Tamil Movie.
Jilla begins with Mohanlal’s classy introduction and a small
flashback. Sivan(Mohanlal) is a local Don in Madurai who is feared by the people.
Sivan brings up Sakthi(Vijay) , son of Sivan’s driver who was killed by a
policeman. Mohanlal brings him up as his own child. Sakthi has hatred toward
the police. Sivan & Sakthi are too
strong but circumstances for Sivan to ask Sakthi to become a cop. But when Sivan
becomes responsible for an accident which resulted in the death of several
innocents in Madurai, Sakthi asks Sivan to give up these things. The old Don is
not ready to accept this and they start opposing each other.
The conflict between Sivan & Sakthi is what power up the
film. Sakthi wants his father to change but the father is not ready
for.Dialogues are too punchy. The film works mainly due to Mohanlal-Vijay combo
scenes and the energetic mass song “Sivanum sakthiyum Sernda Mass Da “ in
which the duo dances is electrifying. Kajjal Agarwal has nothing much to do in
Jilla.
Both the stars have equal screen space. Mohanlal took over
the show in the first half & Vijay in the second half. The problem with
Jilla is that it’s too lengthy. For a
Mass Masala Entertainer , a 3 hrs duration is a bit lengthy. The first half is interesting
beautiful songs and sequences where as the second half lags a bit.
Summing up ..Jilla is a colorful power package which has
all the features of a typical mass film.
Performance
Vijay renders enough support In his character. Mohanlal as
usual gives a brilliant performance in his new looks & style. All other
characters do fit to their roles respectively. Vijay-Kajjal- Soori combination
brings out laughter.
Music
D Imman’s tracks were good. Veresa Pogayile is interesting
& Kandangi was beautifully shot in Japan.
Direction &
Screenplay
Direction from Neason
was good. The screenplay is a bit
lengthy even though it engages the viewer. There are too many punchy dialogues
in Jilla.
Verdict:- Jilla is
a Mass Masala Entertainer For This Festive Season…..A Watchable Movie
Rating:- 3/5
